Qidi Tech X MAX – Packaging
The X-MAX comes very well packed even with carrier hard handeling no damage has come to the printer.
Assembly-
The QIDI Tech X-MAX comes Fully-assembled the only thing you need to do is remove the clamps there are at the belt on the extruder and on XY axis.
Level your bed. Normal temp extruder are installed and ready to go…
Quality and design of the X-MAX
I just love the design of the X-MAX and there are LED light in the champer and also on the front LOGO.
The Extruders are very easy to change even for a beginer.
There is a USB key with the printer where there are very useful video’s on how to on the printer and also Qidi slicer program there looks like a rebrand of cura but it is simpel to use. The Printer include a one-button fast leveling option, an air filter. I dont know if is great, put it helps, WiFi is also a option and also a video how to setup that up on the printer and in the slicer (Sometimes I have to start a print before wifi show up on the slicer), a5-inch color touchscreen with great repons, and a double Z-axis to keeps everything stable.
Before you start printing take a look on the videos on the usb key. Level your bed and do the test print. After the test print and you use your own filament do a flow calibration, I had to lower my Flow rate 10% on PLA. Yet another great future on this printer is that it has auto shutdown option when your prints are finished and the printer has homed it shutdown.
You can place the filament spool outside on the top of the printer, but there are also a mount for a spool inside the champer.
The magnetic bed plate is also great and have 2 sides, Side A, the white side, you can use for PLA, PETG, ABS or what you like. Side B is smooth and a great use for printing with glue on the bed.
The heat bed is very solid 6mm thick, 12mm lead screws. I have only found 1 thing I think there could have been better in the design. Inside the champer there is a cap the hole way around in the button so if you drop something and it goes down there it is not easy to get out again, there are some holes under the printer but stil not easy to handle because of the solid weight of the printer.
Extruder A, the normal extruder is used fot printing filaments like PLA, ABS, TPU and PETG and more filaments that dont need high temp but need part cooling.
Is comes with as brass MK10 nozzle
Extruder B, is for printing filament that dont need a part cooling fan such as Nylon, Carbon fiber, Polycarbonate and ect.
High temp extruder has a hardened MK10 nozzle, the only problem I see with this build that the high temp extruder is very hard to change nozzle on because of the speciel PTFE tube has a steel “ring” on it so it dont melt. I did speak to Qidi Tech about this and they are looking into it. But If you need to change the nozzle you can contact Qidi Tech about buying a new hotend, NOT the hole extruder but that is about 50$.
Upgrade I did on the X-MAX
The part cooling duct from stock is okay but only at lower speed and not the best for PLA filament.
So I did print the Draken fan duct and that did help very much so no problem even at higher speed.
I also did change the bed springs to silcone and it made the printer even better. It helped so I dont need to level so often (did it only that one time) You do of course need to level if you change nozzle or extruder.
Test Prints on the X-MAX
Here is MatterHackers’ Mascot Phil A Ment I did print in orange PETG (Filament PM)
The print profile is not fine tunned yet but is came out okay.
Next I did MatterHackers’ Mascot Phil A Ment again but this time a bit smaller and with green TPU (devils design)
Here I have to make the setting from start so again not fine tunned but the X-Max did and I was lucky it came out okay at first try.
Here is Donkey Kong in PLA Lavender violett (spectrum filament)
Then I did Zombie hunter in pink PLA silk noname filament (a sample)
And now on a tunned Profile layer .02 I did guardians of the galaxy Yondu Udanta in PLA+ Rainbow filament
Test with high temp extruder
Here is a test with the high temp extruder, this is the very first print so it can get alot better than this. The part is printed with Polycarbonate it is extremly strong and some say it is the king of filament when it comes to filament. Polycarbonate has tensile strength 9800 PSI.
More tests and upgrades will come for the X-MAX. Printer profiles will also be here on the site for download.
After Sale Support
The after sale support and service is by far the best I ever had. They answer very fast and help you through the problem and if it comes to a part not working they will ship a new part. The shipment is with DHL EXPRESS so you dont have to wait to long. It is hard to belive but they help you within 12 hours, that is the longst wait I had sometimes 20 min. wait. The service and support is out of my world and Qidi Tech has for SURE the costumer service in 1th place.
My final Verdict.
Would I buy this printer the answer are 100% YES I would. It have a huge build 300mm x 250mm x 300mm so you can print large prints. It is very easy to use, Wifi there works and also a LAN port. The printer is very reliable and it is easy to change extruder very easy. Any problem a fast kind after support helps you to get your print and printer on the way. It has double Z axis. The Auto shutdown after prints are finished. So if you want a very good printer and good service this is a printer you have to look at.
