Sidewinder X1 – Packaging
I did get my Sidewinder X1 from Germany in a big box with thick of foam that protects the printer and the parts.
(Sorry for missing photos they was lost with my old phone)
Assembly
Sidewinder X1 3D Printer V4 Newest Model 95% Pre-Assembled so that was easy and done on 10 mins there was only 4 screws to Assembly the printer and wires are very easy to install. Also wheels had to be adjusted have you tried that before then it take no time to do. The Sidewinder X1 has dual Z motors and lead screws. There is chance of your motors are going out of sync as it also has a top timing belt.
Quality and future test
The Sidewinder X1 has a great massive frame build Z axis 40×20 aluminium extrusions
The X axis 60×20 aluminium extrusion and bed also have 60×20 aluminium extrusion
Power-loss Recovery works great so no problem if you have long print times you are pretty safe with power recovery combined with filament senor also passed the test. And when the Printer runs out of filament the printerhead moves up and away from the print so it is easy to but in new filament and do a purge. The filament sensor could have had a better mount but there is some mounts on thingiverse you could print instead.
Thermal Runaway is also a safety there are on from start and it works all heaters shutdown if something fails. This is the first printer that I have had where that future are on from stock.
Extruder is on direct drive with volcano setup up. After esteps was set then it makes very good and smooth prints, and allmost no noice from the printer when printing.
Heated Glass Bed is AC powered and the printer heat up very very fast so that is very nice future also. My bed was overall pretty stright level a bit lower in the middel than the corners but I can print with no problems. That said if you have to change the bed I think it could be hard with the glass clued on and I fear you could damage the heating plate.
Spool Holder works great and it comes with bearing so the spool turns easy. But if you used differnt size of filament spool then you have to adjust spool holder everytime or you can take a look on some of the addon design on thingiverse then you can use any size on spool.
PCB board XY are great they hide alot of wires there would have been and the board for the extruder/hotend also has a RGB light there works great and you can change the colors on the touch screen or turn it off. It also shows you the status of the printer when heating up and starts the print. There is one problem with all this and that is the pcb borad and cable at the extruder board it is not fixed so after a while you could end up wiyh bad connection, that problem can be solved by printing out on off the desings on thingiverse for the sidewinder.
After sale support
The after sales support works and they listen to you and help solve the problem or send you replacement parts I had a endstop there was cracket it worked with some tape and clue but support did send me a new one. So really good and nice support where you also can chat with one over facebook from official facebook group.
Test Prints
All test prints are printet with
- Layer hight 0.16
- Infill 10%
- Bed 60 degrees
- Hotend 210 after 3 layer 195 degrees
- Print speed 80 mm/s
- Cooling from layer 2 at 50% from layer 4 100%
Thoughts On The Sidewinder X1
The Sidewinder X1 is a great 3D printer and I love it. For the price it is really something that are worth its money.
It heat up fast both in hotend and bed the fastest heating up printer I have and with the volcano hotend, Titan direct extruder it also prints very fast with out any upgrads and in the same time make a good looking print surface.
Solid builded frame that look great and very easy to assembly even for a beginner. That touch screen are also easy to navigate. Bed level is not by autolevel on this printer but with the good build good springs then after us manual level the bed it stays pretty nice there. After 20 hours of printing with different filaments I did not have to relevel the bed.
